about

Award-winning journalist. Civil rights activist. In-demand speaker. Mediator. Singer. Songwriter.

Frank Thomas was born in the segregated south during the days of Jim Crow laws and lynching. The long and winding journey that is his life has taken him literally and figuratively around the world. From a shack in Beech Island, SC with no indoor plumbing across the U.S., Japan and Korea. From a one-room schoolhouse to becoming the first African-American television journalist in Augusta, GA. From using water fountains and restrooms labeled “colored” to serving as Executive Director of the Augusta-Richmond County Human Relations Commission.

With a love for the Lord and gospel music ingrained in him from an early age, Frank began singing with various gospel groups while in the Air Force. He had the first two songs he wrote, “I Thank Jesus So Much” and “Born To Die”, recorded on the Nashboro label in 1961 while singing with the Golden Trumpets. Frank has been blessed to share the stage with some of gospel music's greatest voices – Edna Gallman Cooke, Clarence Fountain & The Blind Boys of Alabama, Shirley Caesar, The Swanee Quintet, Archie Brownlee & The Five Blind Boys of Mississippi, The Jackson Southernaires, The Williams Brothers, and many more.

His latest recording, “The Old Time Way”, returns Frank to the heart of his gospel roots. The release includes the two songs he wrote and recorded with the Golden Trumpets, as well as a number of tracks he wrote and recorded with The Melodian Singers, including “He's The One”, which is in heavy rotation at Georgia's first gospel music radio station, WKZK.

“The Old Time Way” was released independently in the U.S. on January 1, 2011.
